Kill Him!

(Matthew 26:3-4 HCSB) 3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, 4 and they conspired to arrest Jesus in a treacherous way and kill Him.

When I think about how much Jesus loves us, it is hard for me to imagine how so many people could hold him in contempt. Everything he is and does is motivated by love. We talk frequently of his willingness to die for our sins; to take stripes upon his back for our healing–his love is immense. We are told that nothing in life, nothing in heaven or hell; neither angels or demons–can seperate us from his abiding love.

There is never a day that I am unaware of his ever-present love. He takes notice of every detail of my life. He knows when I wake up and when I sleep. He sees every tear that I cry. He has the hairs of my head numbered, and even knows when they turn loose or turn grey! I’m the apple of His eye… I could go on all day describing this supernatural love that can only be experienced through a personal relationship with Jesus.

So, why would chief priests and elders conspire to arrest Jesus in a treacherous way and kill him? It makes no sense whatsoever. In another passage of scripture Jesus says, “The one who hates Me also hates My Father. 24 If I had not done the works among them that no one else has done, they would not have sin. Now they have seen and hated both Me and My Father. 25 But this happened so that the statement written in their scripture might be fulfilled: They hated Me for no reason.” (John 15:23-25 HCSB)

We live in a world that is becoming more anti-Christ with every passing day. This mentality is not simply an ambivilence toward Christ, but in many instances, reflects a deep-seated hatred toward him. We should not be surprised by this rising trend. We know that this mentality will increase as his return draws near. This hatred of Christ will ultimately be turned toward every believer.

With that said, there is deliverance for every believer who endures until the end. His love for us is eternal! There are no gaurantees of tomorrow. But, he has given his word that those who remain in his love; those who remain faithful to him will one day experience the fulness of his love throughout eternity! I’m thankful for this promise!

PRAYER: Father, I’m genuinely grateful that you loved this world so much that you gave Jesus to die for our sins. This love is amazing! With your help, I will continue in this love throughout my natural life… and throughout eternity!  Amen.
