(Exodus 31:2-3, 6 ESV) “2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, … 6 And behold, I have appointed with him Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. And I have given to all able men ability, that they may make all that I have commanded you:”
It is a sad reality that many people do not know what their purpose is. They spend countless hours sowing effort into endeavors that do not further their purpose, or God’s. Furthermore, many of those same people have convinced themselves that God exists to cater to their wants and needs. The truth is, each of us are created by God and are especially appointed and equipped to fulfill every task that He asks us to do.
Exodus 31 introduces us to Bezalel and Oholiab; two men created by God for a very specific and important task. God had given Moses a detailed plan to build a place where He would dwell among His people. This edifice could not just be put together haphazardly. No! The details were very intricate and required craftsman with extraordinary skill.
The Holy Script records the following facts: (1) These two men were specifically chosen and called by name. (2) They were filled with the Spirit of God. (3) Their ability was bestowed by God Himself. (4) Their assignment required intelligence, knowledge, and all craftsmanship.
Moses usually gets all the press for what was accomplished during this time in history. The truth is, Moses could never have completed what these two men, appointed and equipped, contributed to the fulfillment of God’s detailed plan.
Although the record of this historical event appears in the Old Testament, God continues to work in a similar manner today. We are told, “4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.“ (1 Corinthians 12:4-11 ESV)
Did you catch that last statement? God appoints and equips individuals according to His divine will so that His purpose will be accomplished. Moses, Bezalel, Oholiab, Rob, Donna, and the list goes on, and includes your name as well. YOU are anointed and equipped! Isn’t it great to be on God’s team?
PRAYER: Thank you Father for trusting me to do what You have appointed and equipped me to do. Sometimes the task seems overwhelming. But, when I remember that my ability comes from Your hand, then I am confident of a positive outcome which brings glory to Your name. To You be the glory! Amen.
